A report by Tourism Nanaimo indicates that Nanaimo's summer festivals and events are greatly contributing to the economy of the city. Tourism officials say that statistics for Nanaimo are growing in "epic' proportions due largely to the festivals taking place. Many events such as Dragon Boat Festival, International Children's Festival, Bathtub Race, Arts Fest, Adventure Games, Chowder Cook Off, Old City Quarter CANS Festival and Farmer's Market are all downtown Nanaimo events that were noted as contributing to the attraction of thousands of locals and visitors.
