Orca pictures were taken in Nanaimo Harbour December 14, 2007 by Graeme Ellis (DFO at the Biological Station). The homes in the background are near Gallows Point, Protection Island and the larger buildings in the background is Downtown Nanaimo. This particular orca pod of 13 is “transient”, usually seen in Alaska and not near Nanaimo or Gabriola Island. The pod went down as far as Dodd Narrows and back into the Nanaimo Harbour then headed north again up past the Winchelsea Islands. |
